Dr. Dauda Lawal
Governor, Zamfara State
Dr. Dauda Lawal has built his administration around a reform agenda focused on restoring institutional confidence, improving security, rebuilding infrastructure and expanding economic opportunity in Zamfara State.
His administration has pursued an extensive programme of urban renewal and public infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, the development of a modern international airport and the renovation and equipping of schools and hospitals across the state.
Workers’ welfare has also been a significant part of his record. His administration settled more than ₦15 billion in long-standing gratuity obligations to retired civil servants, increased the minimum wage from ₦7,000 to ₦70,000 and introduced a 13th-month salary for workers. Security interventions have included Community Protection Guards and increased logistical support for security agencies.
In agriculture, the administration has distributed fertiliser, crop inputs and equipment while pursuing partnerships designed to expand mechanised farming, agro-processing and agricultural value chains. A 10-year State Development Plan has further provided a long-term framework around economy, infrastructure, social welfare, human capital, governance and environmental sustainability.
The Daily Times of Nigeria honours Dr. Dauda Lawal as Outstanding Governor (North West) for a reform-driven approach to governance, significant infrastructure and urban renewal, strengthened worker welfare, agricultural development and sustained efforts to rebuild Zamfara State.
